Returning Student

Are you returning to Columbia Basin College after taking a break? Welcome back! We are glad that you have decided to return. We may need some updated information from you and you may need to complete a few items to ensure you're ready to get back on your educational path.

Follow these simple steps to get ready to return to CBC!

  • 1. Reactivate your account

We're happy you want to return to CBC! Depending on how long it's been since your last quarter with us, you may need to reapply. Even if you're not sure when you're coming back, we encourage you to apply for financial aid as soon as possible, check in with Hawk Central about your eligibility, and think about your plans to pay for classes.

When you take a quarter or more off from CBC, your account becomes inactive, but don't worry, everything is still there--we just need to reactivate your account and make sure that the information we have is still current.

    Reactivate your account

If you've been gone for more than four quarters, you will need to submit a new Application for Admission.

    Apply now!

If you previously applied to CBC but never attended classes, you'll want to follow our New Student steps.

Did you know that you may be eligible to receive financial aid to attend CBC? We encourage everyone to apply for financial aid because you never know what you might be eligible for. If you are interested in applying, now is the time to do it.

Visit the Financial Aid page for more information on how to apply.

You can also check out our Paying for College page to see what other options might be available to you as well.

  • 2. Register for classes

At CBC we have multiple measures in place to ensure you continue in the right classes. Depending on what you've taken in the past, you may need to retest for math and/or English. You can also meet with a completion coach to talk about what classes to take during your first quarter back.

Because you've been away for a while, your original placement scores may have expired. If this is the case, depending on how many credits you have, you may need to retake the placement assessment.

If you are unsure if your test scores are still valid, you can login to your student account to view your test scores or contact the Assessment Center.

If you think you may have enough credits for placement purposes, we recommend meeting with a completion coach to go over your transcript and determine what courses you should be taking as you move forward at CBC!

Once you've determined what classes you're eligible to take your first quarter back, you'll be ready to register. Each quarter you'll be assigned a registration access time based on the number of credits you've earned at CBC. You can view your registration access time by logging into MyCBC. Registration can be as simple as a few clicks via Web Registration, but if you need help, you have options!

If you know exactly what classes you'd like to register for, Hawk Central can help you with the registration process in person.

If you're still having trouble deciding what classes to take, we recommend visiting Counseling and Advising to ensure you're choosing the best classes possible.

  • 3. Get ready for school

Once you're registered for classes, you're almost ready for the quarter to start! Don't forget to pay for your classes before the tuition deadline and plan to buy textbooks. If you have questions or need help, we're here every step of the way!

Once you've registered for classes, you'll see charges on your student account for the tuition and fees associated with your classes. In order to keep your seat in the classes you've registered for, it's important to pay your tuition by the tuition deadline. You can always find the tuition deadline on our Academic Deadlines calendar.

For more information on paying for college including payment options and financial aid, visit our Paying for College page.

Now that you've registered for classes and paid your tuition, you're ready to buy your textbooks! To find out what books you'll need for your classes, stop by the CBC Bookstore or visit the Bookstore website.

It's official: you're ready to attend classes as a CBC student! We're so glad you've chosen to pursue your education at CBC and we are here to help you every step of the way, but the only person who can truly make your education a success is you!
