What are College Skill Building Classes?
Students can take non-credit bearing English or math classes in Transitional Studies to prepare for college level courses or employment.
Basic, intermediate and Advanced English classes are available for students who are ready to move beyond our ELA program, native English Speakers who want to brush up on writing and grammar before entering college.
Transitional Studies also offers pre-algebra to prepare for math offered by the CBC Math Department or preparation for employment requirements.
Who is Eligible for College Skill Building
Students should have a High School diploma or GED to be eligible to take classes in English or math in preparation for college or to improve their employment opportunities.
How the Classes Work
- Students will take a computerized English placement test to determine the appropriate level.
- Classes run for one quarter or approximately 11 weeks.
- Classroom attendance is mandatory as well as online work in Canvas.
- Schedules for individual classes vary.
Cost and Financial Help
The cost is $25 per quarter. Tuition waivers are available for eligible students.

Students will gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the next level of study, whether that is a college degree or certificate, an I-BEST program or other employment opportunities they plan to pursue.
