Pasco, Wash. – STCU has donated $25,000 to the Columbia Basin College (CBC) Cares Emergency Fund to support students experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds will be used to help CBC students and their families who have lost jobs, are experiencing food insecurity, facing risk of homelessness or having to choose between their education and basic needs.

“I would like to express immense gratitude to STCU for this generous gift,” said Rebekah Woods, CBC’s President. “We are hearing from students daily who have lost their jobs, are struggling with childcare or are uncertain of how they will pay next month’s rent. This gift will help these students continue their education during this stressful and uncertain time.”

In April 2020, CBC partnered with STCU to launch the CBC Cares Emergency Fund campaign, with STCU agreeing to match all donations raised by CBC up to a total of $25,000 through June 1, 2020. With the help of generous donors, CBC raised $27,000 as of June 1.

“We’re grateful to everyone who is helping meet the financial needs of these individuals and families,” said Ezra Eckhardt, STCU President and CEO. “It is an act of kindness that serves the entire community, ensuring that these students can continue their CBC education and become established in their chosen careers.”
