A celebration Saturday night at Columbia Basin College honored the contributions of local Latina leaders in the Tri-Cities. The “Noche de Leonas” was presented by the Tri-Cities League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council.

The seven honorees included a recent CBC graduate of the Radiologic Technology program, Leslie M. Jimenez. The six other honorees were: Juana Alejandra Bautista, Alicia Izaguirre, Maria Pacheco, Maria J. Lopez, Norma Rodriguez and Blanche Barajas.

The LULAC Council exists to advance the educational, political and economic cause of Hispanic populations in the United States, and bills itself as the oldest such Hispanic organization in the country.

The dinner at CBC included music, dancing, singing and video tributes to the seven women honorees. The event was designed to help the community listen to the experiences of these women and learn more about how more support can be provided to help create the female leaders of the future.

Helping present the honors were CBC President Rebekah Woods as well as all three superintendants of local K-12 school districts.
