Columbia Basin College (CBC) is excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Planetarium on April 18. We will unveil a new laser projector system and announce Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo) as the new naming rights sponsor of the Planetarium and celebrate HAPO Community Credit Union’s renewed five-year commitment to the Planetarium’s lobby.

CPCCo President, John Eschenberg, expressed his excitement about the announcement. “We are over the moon about this partnership with the Columbia Basin College Planetarium. This facility has been a valuable educational resource to the Tri-Cities community for the past decade. As we look forward to the next 10 years, we are thrilled to collaborate with the college as the facility sponsor.”

“Partnerships like this further access to STEM learning for all ages. CPCCo’s investment in the new projector creates a memorable, engaging experience that audiences will not only remember, but come back to enjoy again and again,” says CBC President Rebekah Woods. The remodeled lobby creates learning experiences from the moment you walk in. “HAPO was excited to not only continue our support, but to enhance the lobby to be an immersive learning experience for everyone,” says HAPO President Dolores Broeske.

Columbia Basin College’s Planetarium opened in December 2012 to share the wonder of science, technology and the universe. Guests at the grand opening ceremony included NASA astronauts Charlie Duke and Story Musgrave. The 10-year anniversary will include our partners CPCCo, HAPO Community Credit Union, CBC Leadership and invited community members. “Our partnership with CBC reaches beyond this facility and into the classroom. They are providing the world-class training needed for rigorous nuclear remediation jobs at the Hanford Site, and we are actively engaged in finding those stellar students places where they can excel in helping us accomplish our cleanup mission,” says Eschenberg.
