Medical Assistant Professional Licensure

The following list shows states and territories that CBC’s Medical Assisting program either meets or does not meet their educational requirements for licensure. States or territories that we have not made a determination on are not listed.

Alaska
Alaska does not currently license the practice of medical assistants. Although the state doesn’t license medical assistants many healthcare facilities may require a certification. Students who are interested in working in Alaska should look at the AAMA State Scope of Practice webpage and/or contact the CBC program contact. 

California
Columbia Basin College has not determined whether this program meets the educational requirements for licensure in California. Students who are interested in working in California should contact the California Medical Assistants Association and/or contact the CBC program contact. 

Idaho
Idaho does not currently license the practice of medical assistants. Although the state doesn’t license medical assistants many healthcare facilities may require a certification. Students who are interested in working in Idaho should look at the AAMA State Scope of Practice webpage and/or contact the CBC program contact. 

Montana
Montana does not license the practice of medical assistants. Montana has a requirement that healthcare providers verify  a medical assistant's education, training, etc. which can be evidenced by graduation from an accredited medical assistant program. Students who are interested in working in Montana should look at the AAMA State Scope of Practice webpage and/or contact the CBC program contact. 

Oregon
Oregon does not currently license the practice of medical assistants. Although the state doesn’t license medical assistants many healthcare facilities may require a certification. Students who are interested in working in Idaho should look at the AAMA State Scope of Practice webpage and/or contact the CBC program contact. 

South Carolina
Columbia Basin College has determined this program meets the educational requirements for licensure in South Carolina. Students who are interested in working in South Carolina should look at the AAMA State Scope of Practice webpage and/or contact the CBC program contact.
