CBC was designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) in 2014. The CAE-CD designation is awarded to regionally-accredited higher education institutions in the United States that meet rigorous requirements in their commitment to producing cyber security professionals who will reduce vulnerabilities in the national infrastucture.

The designated programs must have passed stringent requirements and reviews as well as demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence in the cyber security field. The goal of the national CAE-CD designation program is to increase the number of well-trained and skilled professionals with higher education in the field of cyber security with an overall goal to protect the information infrastructure of the United States.

CAE designations are awarded by the joint sponsors of the program, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
