In order to reduce its environmental impact, improve the quality of our work environment, and to maintain its position as a model for environmental stewardship and as a resource for environmental education, Columbia Basin College formed the Sustainability Committee to advise the College on best sustainable practices. The committee was assembled in September 2008 and is comprised of students, faculty, staff, and community members. They meet quarterly to address sustainability issues brought forth regarding the campus, to continue to improve the sustainability of the College, and to keep students, faculty, and staff informed about sustainable practices.

From Monday, April through Wednesday, April 17, CBC’s Sustainability Committee is hosting a bus ridership contest. This contest is being held to promote more sustainable transportation practices, and the Ben Franklin Transit is a wonderful way to help the environment and avoid parking problems. Students, staff, and faculty are able to participate.
Submit an Entry
To submit an entry, take a selfie while riding the bus, and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #hawksonthebus, and tag CBC and Benton Franklin Transit in your post. Five winners will each receive a $20 gift card to either the Hawk’s Nest or the CBC Bookstore. Winners will be selected from a random drawing, and notifications will happen through CBC’s social media pages on Earth Day, April 22 at 9 am.
Get a FREE Bus Pass
CBC offers FREE bus ridership to all current CBC students and employees. Riders must have a current CBC ID card and current quarter sticker. ID cards and stickers are available at the ID card station in the HUB. A current CBC ID card and current quarter sticker will allow access to all routes offered by Ben Franklin Transit.
The contest begins April 1 and ends April 17, 2019 at 11:59 pm PST. Winners will be announced at 9 am on April 22, 2019 via CBS’s Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. To enter to win, you must take a selfie on a Benton Franklin Transit bus and post it to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using #hawksonthebus and tag Columbia Basin College and Benton Franklin Transit in the post. Five winners will be chosen during a random drawing. Five winners will receive one $20 gift card each. Winners can choose a gift card from CBC’s Hawks Nest or Bookstore. CBC faculty, staff and students only are eligible to win.
