The Girls Engaged in Math Success (GEMS) event is designed to provide young girls in 7th-10th grade and currently taking Algebra I in school, an opportunity to build their confidence in algebra skills as they explore non-traditional professional-technical career opportunities through hands-on activities. During this evening event, young girls will be introduced to algebra in a hands-on, creative, and engaging approach to demystify algebra in a fun game-like approach.
Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the parent track portion of the event in which they will be provided information on college planning, financial aid, scholarships, dual credit opportunities for their students, as well as math preparedness. Additional information will be provdied to parents regarding CBC's professional-technical programs and career opportunities.
During the final evening, students and their families will hear from math and industry professionals and the students will have the opportunity to showcase their new skills with their parents and family.
The registration deadline is Friday, March 28, 2014. Space will be limited to the first 50 girls in 7th-10th grade who are currently enrolled in Algebra I that submit a completed registration packet on a first-come, first-serve basis.
