Melissa Slater

Associate Professor of Project Management

Back in the Winter Quarter of 2012, I became a student in the CBC Project Management Program. Initially, I only intended to get the 1-Year Certificate to further my job skills in the Engineering Construction industry. What I came to find was a program with faculty who cared about my success. I kept moving forward, achieving the 2-Year Associate of Applied Science Project Management Degree, and then later in June of 2015 achieved the 4-Year Bachelor of Applied Science Project Management Degree. I went on to the Master of Science in PM at City University of Seattle in July of 2015. The program at CBC uniquely prepared me for success in my graduate program and in June of 2017 I achieved my MS milestone. At this time in my career, I left the current company I was working for and took a position making more than twice my annual salary. I took a year off, and in July of 2018 I began a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration with Specialization in Project Management at Northcentral University of San Diego, California. In the Fall 2019 Quarter, I became an Adjunct Professor of Project Management in the CBC PM Program. A year later, I shifted from part time in project management consulting, and full time as an Assistant Professor of Project Management in the CBC Project Management Program. In the Fall Quarter of 2022, I defended my dissertation and was conferred as a Ph.D. in October.

What is the punchline here? My love for learning was ignited in the Project Management Program at CBC and I realized that there were no limits in what I could accomplish. Paying forward to the next generation of project management professionals is my purpose. Research and knowledge creation in the discipline of project management is my passion. Come join us! It will be life changing.
