Columbia Basin College's faculty counselors
are professionals holding Master's degrees in counseling, psychology,
social work, or a closely related field, and are Registered or Licensed
Counselors in Washington State. Some counselors have specialized
certifications and/or credentials.
Our role as counselors
and teachers is to help students become responsible for their learning
and personal growth.
REASONS
FOR SEEING A COUNSELOR
A counselor can help you with:
- Personal concerns that are hindering your academic success;
- Tension, anxiety or depression and assistance with major
life transitions such as divorce, marriage, death or grief;
- Fears of doing poorly in college or struggling academically;
- Career assessments and counseling;
- Concerns about whether you can accomplish your educational
or personal goals;
- Academic success strategies such as test preparation,
test anxiety, and effective study skills;
- Developing an academic plan which matches your educational
objectives and degree requirements;
- Academic probation intervention and planning;
- Any other reason you feel is important.
Counselors can provide
short-term counseling for a variety of issues. If your problem is
of an intense psychological nature, or needing medical intervention,
we will help you find appropriate professional services outside
of Columbia Basin College.
