Determining the type of degree you’ll need for your career choice often includes selecting a major. For some careers, the connection between the major and the career are very clear. For example, to become a mechanical engineer, you would major in mechanical engineering. For others, the connection between the career and major is not so clear. Some majors can prepare you for a wide variety of career options. Some examples of these are: psychology, liberal arts, and political science.
Matching
Majors to Careers can help you choose an academic
path in college that will lead to the career you want. Be advised that, more and more, universities are expecting students to have transferable credits taken in preparation for a professional academic major. This enables the student to be "major ready"; many universities are basing admissions on intended major and college courses (and grades) taken in anticipation of the intended major.
