Spyn Reset from Seattle performs a mix of electronic rock and jazz July 20 at the Emerald of Siam in Richland.
Evan McPherson, a 2006 Kamiakin High grad, is the band's guitarist and is looking forward to playing a gig in his hometown.
He started playing in the jazz band as a junior at Kamiakin under the direction of Keith Russell, he said. When he enrolled in the Running Start program at Columbia Basin College, Randy Hubbs took over his mentoring. He later attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
"I remember having a blast touring with Randy and the CBC Jazz Band," McPherson said. "I studied with some great local musicians like Rob Burroughs, John LaChapelle and Dan Cass."
When McPherson isn't touring with Spyn Reset, he runs his own music school on Capitol Hill in Seattle called Denny Way Music School.
His bandmates are Yasu on keyboards, Pierson Martin on drums and Tommy Whiteside on percussion. They play a mix of progressive electronic and instrumental sounds.
The Emerald gig starts at 9 p.m. Cover is $5.
