Columbia Basin College has a new and big piece of art on campus.
"Velocity," a steel and aluminum creation, climbs the wall of the Center for Career and Technical Education.
Artist Virginia Paquette says the space required something powerful and reflects the energy and enthusiasm of the educational experience.
"It's opposite of what's called plop art, where you bring in a piece of sculpture and you come in and plop it down on the plaza," Paquette says. "This is size specific and it's supposed to be more in touch of what is going on."
The CCTE teaches students in Automotive Technology, Welding, Manufacturing, Nuclear Technology, and Aerospace Technology.
Washington state law requires one-half of one percent of the cost of publicly-funded buildings be spent on artwork.
