Retesting is appropriate when there is reason to believe that a score obtained from a previous testing does not accurately reflect the examinee's true level of knowledge or skill. Typically, retesting is appropriate in two situations: (1) when factors other than the examinee's ability are believed to have influenced the previous testing and (2) when the scores obtained from earlier testing are no longer believed to reflect the student's ability. Retesting to improve course placement is seldom successful if a person has not studied or has not taken a class prior to retesting.
- Mathematics placement scores are consider valid for one year from your test date. Writing and reading placement scores are considered valid for two years from your test date. You must enroll in your math, English, or class requiring a test score prerequisite prior to the expiration date. Once test scores expire, you will not be able to use them to satisfy course registration requirements. A fee of $21.50 will be required for testing once test scores expire.
- Prior to test score expiration, one retest is allowed per content area (English, reading, or math) in a calendar year. The cost is $10.50 per content area.
- You may NOT retake COMPASS once you have started taking an Adult Basic Education class offered through the Learning Opportunity Center in order to skip the sequence of classes.
- If you are enrolled in a class and think you are incorrectly placed, talk to your instructor about your concerns.
