I wouldn’t have enjoyed my first year at Columbia Basin College if it wasn’t for the CAMP Program. Attending a college setting for the first time can be frustrating, but luckily the CAMP Program is here to help! This program has helped me stay on track with grades, selecting the correct classes and creating a transfer plan. I am very grateful for the opportunity of being a CAMP Scholar and mentor. Thanks to this program, I have learned important skills that have been useful, and will help me in the future.

CAMP has been a unique experience! All of the guidance, assistance, and dedication that is given to the students makes a difference on our educational outlook, encouraging us to strive for greater goals in school, our careers, and any goal that we decide to take on. I appreciate all of the assistance that was offered to me, it truly made an impact. It encouraged me to go further in life rather than settling for less. Everything that the program has to offer is geared towards the student’s success and to assist them in achieving their education goals. CAMP truly inspired me to want more out of my education, to go further in life and to believe in myself. I truly recommend CAMP to anyone wanting a greater college experience.

Transitioning from high school into college wasn’t the easiest of steps. I still had doubts in my mind of how successful I would be in a different setting. I had plenty of questions, which needed an answer. How was I going to be able to pay for my education? Where would I sign up for classes? What classes should I take to transfer? I was fortunate to have been accepted into the CAMP program. CAMP didn’t just answer all of my questions they also helped me feel comfortable on campus. Through the CAMP program I got the pleasure of meeting other students who shared some of the same goals for college as myself. I even had some CAMP scholars in my classes. It was comforting to at least know someone in my class. CAMP also encouraged us to get involved on campus. They motivated and helped me campaign for a student leadership position at CBC. With their support I was able to accomplish the title of student body president in 2014-15. It is easy to say that CAMP was the best choice I made when I decided to attend CBC. They offered the support, guidance, and academic help to allow me to succeed in my first year of college.

If I ever had the opportunity to redo my college year with CAMP I would say yes right away. When you first step into campus, college can be pretty tense and intimidating because you don’t know what to expect, but CAMP helps ease the tension of going to college for the first time in your life. CAMP provides both academic and personal help, which at first you don’t expect to use those resources and then mid-quarter you find yourself printing out your English essays, finding research of your research paper in their office, or just hanging out meeting other people from your cohort. But the most important part about CAMP was that you form friendships with people who share the same goals and by the end of the year you will become almost family. Then this family becomes a strong support network that helps you thrive for success and encourages you to reach your goals and even surpass them. My freshman year in college was fun because of CAMP and was an unforgettable experience that I hope many others get the chance to experience as well.
