Students in Math 096 are allowed to use only four-function calculators during exams. To help instructors understand which calculators are considered acceptable, the following definition is provided.
Four-Function Calculator (FFC): any non-graphing calculator that is not consider to be scientific, does not have a dot-matrix display, and does not simplify fractions is considered a FFC. Typically, such a calculator will perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and approximate principal square roots. There are memory, +/-, or percentage keys on some models. See Casio Calculators for an example, also, TI Calculators. The models listed are for example only and are not necessarily recommended. Many less expensive models from lesser known brands are widely available.
Also, students in Math 095, 097, and 098 are allowed to only use a Casio FX-260 Solar scientific calculator during exams. Follow the link (Casio FX-260 Solar ) for details about this model. This model is the one given to students taking the GED exam.
