The CBC High School Academy (HSA) is an innovative high school on the College campus which provides students an educational opportunity to achieve a high school diploma through an accelerated academic program. Students ages 16 through 20, who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of dropping out, may be eligible to participate. Classes are offered on the CBC Pasco campus. This program was developed through a joint exploration with the following districts and community agencies: Columbia, Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, Fast Forward Program, and the Benton County Juvenile Justice Center. Enrollment is limited and students must meet the participating district's eligibility requirements to be considered. Current participating school districts include Columbia, Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland. The participating districts cover the costs of tuition and books for their respective program participants.
Eligibility Criteria
Enrollment is limited and students must meet eligibility requirements to be considered. Students must:
- Have not completed high school graduation requirements.
- Be at least 16 years of age, but be no more than 20 years of age as of midnight August 31.
- Be a former student from the participating school district high schools (Columbia, Kennewick, Pasco, or Richland).
- Current students from participating districts who are at risk of dropping out are considered based upon district recommendation only.
- Obtain a CBC High School Academy application and referral packet from partner school district high schools (Columbia, Kennewick, Pasco, or Richland).
- Have completed both the CBC and High School Academy applications.
- Have completed the COMPASS assessment test for assessment purposes.
Note: students who have finished all high school graduation requirements EXCEPT the state assessment requirements are not eligible.
Expectations After Admission
Students are expected to:
- Be responsible for their learning and use time management wisely
- Make satisfactory progress towards high school requirements
- Be in attendance daily
- Comply with CBC HSA rules and regulations
How to Enroll
- Contact the appropriate person based on your situation to obtain a CBC High School Academy application and referral packet.
- Students living in the partner school districts (Columbia, Pasco, Kennewick, or Richland) who have passed their graduation year may contact Jennifer Hamilton at the Fast Forward Program or district representative listed below.
- Return completed HSA application to Jennifer Hamilton or your district representative.
- Prior to taking the COMPASS test, contact the High School Academy Program Assistant in order to obtain a fee waiver and a CBC Student Identification Number (SID#).
- Attend an interview with the High School Academy Director for transcript evaluation and scheduling classes.
- Obtain a CBC Student Identification (SID) card.
- Attend a mandatory High School Academy Orientation.
- Attend classes.
