CBC is committed to providing an atmosphere conducive to study, research, and learning for all users. Noisy and disruptive behavior disturbs the learning process. Disruptive individuals or groups will be given one warning from library staff. If the disruption continues, individuals or groups may be asked to leave the library.
Cellular telephone ring tones and conversations are disruptive. In consideration of other library users, put your cell phone ringer on vibrate or turn it off. You're welcome to text, but please take phone conversations outside.
Policy on Children
The CBC Library is open to the public. Children are welcome to visit the library, but for their own safety, must be accompanied at all times by a parent or adult caregiver. The safety, security, and behavior of children are the responsibility of the parent or adult caregiver. Please note the following:
- This policy pertains to minors who are not enrolled in CBC classes or college-sponsored programs.
- Parents or adult caregivers must monitor all activities and behavior of their children while they are in the library. The staff person in charge will request that a child leave the library if the library's policies are not followed.
- Children may use the library computers, subject to this policy and our Computer Access Policy and guest procedures. Parents will be required to sign their child's guest computer user registration, be responsible for their compliance with our policies, and closely monitor their computer use.
- Parents or adult caregivers are responsible for any damage to property or act of vandalism done by the child (cutting, tearing, defacing, destroying books, periodicals, computers, equipment, furniture, etc.).
- If a child is left in the library unattended, the staff will notify CBC Campus Security.
Food, Drink & Tobacco Policy
This policy is intended to protect our library materials and electronic equipment and to maintain a clean, comfortable, and pest-free environment for library users and staff. Failure to comply with this policy may result in users being asked to leave the library. Repeated or otherwise serious infractions may result in other disciplinary action consistent with the policies of CBC.
- Consistent with campus policies, consumption of alcohol and use of tobacco products are prohibited within the library.
- Consumption of food is not allowed in the library. Please store all food securely out of sight in your belongings.
- Drink may not be consumed in the computer areas of the library. In the study areas of the library, non-alcoholic beverages may be consumed from spill-proof containers. Open containers, glass bottles, and paper cups are not allowed. Sealed glass bottles and unopened cans should be stored out of sight in your belongings.
- Unattended open containers of food or beverages will be discarded.
- As a courtesy, users may leave food or beverages at the Circulation Desk for very short periods of time. Such items will be understood to be the responsibility of the owner, not the library staff. Food or beverages left unclaimed for extended periods or at closing time will be discarded.
