This program has a mandatory Medical Assistant information session requirement. Your questions will be answered by an Advisor/Counselor or a program representative. Anyone interested in a CBC Health Science program should attend. These sessions are free and open to the public. Students, friends, and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Prerequisites for Consideration Into Program
College transcripts of applicants into the Medical Assistant program will be reviewed for the following courses:
**Starting fall quarter, 2019, the Communication Studies requirement for the Medical Assistant AAS degree, and the one-year certificate will be for a five-credit CMST course: CMST&210, CMST&220 or CMST&260.
The three-credit CMST 101 course will no longer be acceptable for the degree or certificate.
Medical Assistant applications need to include a copy of the following healthcare documentation:

Medical Assistant Program Application
The 2017-18 Medical Assistant application process is now closed. The next opportunity to apply for the program will be in May 2018 to start classes Fall quarter 2018. The link to "Courses" in the blue box contains the required course list.
Medical Assistant applicants will be mailed a letter notifying if they have been accepted into the program, or not, based upon their Index Score and ranking. Accepted students will need to attend a mandatory orientation before being enrolled in the program, this information will be included in the acceptance letter. Each student is required to submit a national background search to the college-approved vendor. This background check must be initiated and paid for by the student online before registration is allowed. Details will be included with your letter. Accepted students must provide proof, and keep current, the required immunizations before going to clinical. These will be uploaded and tracked by the same vendor that does the background check. The cost to the student for the background check and immunization tracking is $109.75.
Credentialing with WA State Department of Health
Upon successful completion of course work from the CBC Medical Assistant program, CBC graduates will have the degree or certificate earned posted at the bottom of their college transcript.
Graduates of CBC Medical Assistant program qualify for examination with American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) to be nationally certified. Fees are additional and we encourage graduates to apply for testing shortly before completion of your last quarter clinical course. Cost is $125 if the application is submitted within 12 months of graduation date.
Washington State Department of Health (DOH) mandatory licensing fee is $145 to be paid by the graduate.
