Laptop Loan Agreement
Guidelines for Borrowing and Use
- Only CBC students who present valid student ID cards may borrow laptops.
- Laptops are available for loan at the discretion of the Library staff. No loans will be made during the last 15 minutes the Library is open.
- Borrowers are required to sign the Laptop Loan Agreement before borrowing a laptop. A copy of the signed Laptop Loan Agreement will be kept on file at the Library. Patrons will be asked to sign another Laptop Loan Agreement each quarter.
- The borrower is financially responsible for loss of the laptop and any of its components. If a laptop or any of its components are determined to be lost or stolen, the borrower will be responsible for replacement costs as well as a processing fee.
- The condition of each laptop will be noted each time a computer is checked in.
- Students should check the condition of the laptop and ensure it works before leaving the Library and bring any issues to the attention of Library staff.
Loan Policies
- Laptops are for use by currently enrolled CBC students only. Enrollment will be verified at the time the Laptop Loan Agreement is signed each quarter.
- All equipment is due back to the Library seven days from the time it was checked out or, in the case of holidays or campus closures, the next day of operation, whichever comes sooner.
- The checked out laptop cannot be immediately checked out again at the time of return (but another can be checked out if available) and the loan period cannot be extended online.
- Students should never store files on the local computer system as they will be lost on reboot.
- Laptops not returned by the time the Library closes on the date due will be assessed a fine of $25 per day.
- After seven days, the laptop will be considered lost and the borrower will be responsible for paying the full replacement cost up to $800 plus a processing fee.
- If a borrower does not return a laptop, the incident will be treated as a theft and will be turned over to the Pasco Police Department. In addition, the CBC Business office will be notified immediately to issue a bill for the full replacement cost of the laptop, plus the processing fee. Damages will be assessed on an individual basis and charged in the same manner as an unreturned laptop.
- Student will be responsible for paying any replacement fees by the end of the academic school year in which the laptop was lost or stolen. Any amount not paid by June 30 of that year will be sent to the collection agency.
- Borrowers are required to abide by the CBC Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources policy.
- Borrowers are responsible for knowing and following the rules stated in the CBC Student Laptop Checkout policy.
