Mike Johnson completed a 21-year career in the U.S. Navy in 1992, retiring as
Commanding Officer of USS Sturgeon, a nuclear-powered submarine. Following the
Navy, he turned his attention to nuclear waste cleanup for Department of Energy
facilities, working first for a subsidiary of Waste Management Inc. in Oak
Ridge, Tennessee. After a year, he joined one of the predecessor companies for
URS Corporation at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina, with
follow-on assignments at Los Alamos and Idaho Falls.
He moved to the Tri-Cities in May, 2011, after a four-year stint leading
nuclear waste management at the Sellafield Site in the United Kingdom. Mike is
the President and Project Manager for Washington River Protection Solutions LLC
at the Hanford site.
Mike has been active in community service agencies at every work location in
the United States and overseas. He has a keen interest in education and training
of our residents to ensure the future of the community.
