Horticulture is the branch of agriculture that deals with the planting and growth of plants. Courses are designed to focus on the science involved in growing plants. Urban dwelling humans have drifted away from food and fiber production favoring other less physically demanding occupations. The ability to grow plants that provide food and fiber is one of the basic necessities of a society. Students taking horticulture courses are directed toward a transfer degree in science (AST). Students are challenged to face the realities of plant production through active participation in verbal and written communication. See also
