This exam is designed to measure reading, writing, and math knowledge for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals, along with their ability to apply these in a classroom environment. This evaluation is intended to satisfy the requirements of the federally legislated “No Child Left Behind Act.”
When can I test?
Beginning February 2, 2018, the Assessment Center will proctor this exam on the first and third Friday’s of each month at 8:30 am.
Can I retake the test?
Yes. The ParaPro Assessment may be taken once every 21 days, not including the day you took the test. There are no current limits on how many times you can take the exam in a year. Same fees and conditions apply each time you test.
How do I register to take the ParaPro Assessment?
ParaPro exams are by appointment only. Contact the Assessment Center at 509-542-4860 OR email your name, phone number, and requested test date to testingcenter@columbiabasin.edu. Visit Testing Calendar for a list of this month’s testing dates. IMPORTANT NOTE: You must register using the exact name recorded on your valid picture ID provided on test day. Seats are limited and are on a first-come basis. Please cancel if you are unable to attend.
How do I request accommodations?
Columbia Basin College and Educational Testing Service (ETS) are committed to providing reasonable testing services for candidates with documented disabilities or health-related needs. Accommodation requests must be submitted directly to ETS at https://www.ets.org/parapro/disabilites . Requests for accommodations should be submitted as early as possible as they may take several weeks to review and complete. How is the test delivered?
All test questions are in English and delivered online.
How long is the test?
The exam is 2.5 hours. Arrive at least 30 minute early to allow for payment and check-in. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30 am. No late arrivals will be seated.
What is the cost?
The $80 NON-REFUNDABLE fee must be paid on test day prior to taking the exam. Check in at the Assessment Center, Building H (Room H119), to receive your payment ticket for the cashier at HAWK Central. You may pay with cash, check, money order, Visa or MasterCard credit/debit. Doors open on Fridays at 7:00 a.m.
What subject areas are on the test?
The exam consist of 90 multiple-choice questions. Math (30 questions), Reading (30 questions) and Writing (30 questions).
How do I prepare?
Study Companion, ParaPro tutorial and an Interactive Practice Test are available at https://www.ets.org/parapro/test_prep/materials. Preparing for the exam is strongly encouraged.
What score do I need to pass?
Washington state qualifying score is 461.
How long does it take to receive my scores?
Unofficial scores will print at the end of your test. You will receive official score reports approximately 2-3 weeks after you test.
What if I lose my score report?
You may order additional score reports at https://www.ets.org/parapro/scores/add_scores/ for test taken in the past ten years. There is a $50 non-refundable fee.

Test Day Reminders
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early to check-in at the Assessment Center, Building H (Room H119) and pay for your exam.
- Bring a valid picture ID. See the list of primary and supplemental identification documents accepted. No valid picture ID, no testing, no exceptions.
- Bring receipt of exam purchase to the testing room.
- Pencils and scratch paper will be provided by the testing center.
- Travel light. All personal belongings, including but not limited to, cell phones, watches, etc. will be stored in a locker prior to testing, and will not be available until you have completed your entire exam.
- No food or drinks permitted in the test room.
