My vision is to continue and expand this kind of commitment to higher education, our community, and our students at CBC. I want to ensure CBC is a college of first choice for the Tri-Cities region. We need to continue to be a strong education partner with the area K-12 school districts and other colleges and universities. We also need to continue to be a strategic partner with our community. I continue to be impressed with the way the community envelopes CBC through its countless partnerships with the College.
A few examples:
Our partnerships with our K-12 school districts has resulted in a record 1,100 Running Start students at CBC, allowing high school juniors and seniors to earn up to two years of college credits and an associate’s degree, saving parents and their students thousands of dollars in tuition.
As a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, we received federal funds to construct the new Math Center to aid all students with their math studies.
With a $3 million donation from Kadlec Regional Medical Center, we opened the CBC Wortman Medical Science Center in Richland to support CBC health science programs and provide a residency for medical students with a working medical clinic.
For the future, CBC is partnering with the Port of Kennewick and the City of Kennewick to construct a culinary institute to go with the city’s wine village project.
Whether expanding workforce programs, academic transfer opportunities, or transitional studies skills, Columbia Basin College leads the way in postsecondary education opportunities in the Tri-Cities. But most importantly, we define our success by the success of our students. They are our first priority and the reason we exist. I am proud to be part of Columbia Basin College and to serve our community with such a caring and forward-thinking institution.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss how you can be successful at Columbia Basin College.
