Spokane men and Columbia Basin women take top honors in the opening
match of league play at Highlander Golf Club in Wenatchee, Washington
during play Saturday and Sunday.
The Sasquatch men led after day one with a 279 and again shot a day best 262 Sunday to win 541 to runner up Bellevue's 571.
Columbia Basin's women were also never threatened when they finished
day one 17 strokes ahead of Green River and Spokane and easily took
day two with a weekend low team score of 238 to finish at 480. Green
River outpaced the Sasquatch to finish second 516 to Spokane's 523.
Skagit Valley's Connor Denesson had the highlight of the tournament when he aced hole 7 in Saturday's play.
Spokane's Brady Calkins (WF West HS) was the men's medalist with 134,
edging teammates Evan Omelia and Zack Spencer who both shot a 135.
Olympic's Leslie Guzman (Central Kitsap HS) was the women's medalist
with 155, edging Green River's Tiffany Wilkening who had a 156.
Guzman’s opening 73 was a career best. She bested her previous low
round of 81 (shot last year at Bandon Dunes) by 8 strokes.
Bellevue’s Chad Hall provided the most compelling drama of the
tournament. Hall finished a respectable T3 with a 140 final score.
In the first round Hall was -1 thru 15 holes but carded a double on 16
and a score of 10 on the tricky risk-reward par-4 number 17. Limping in
day 1 with a humbling 77, Hall then provided the round of the
tournament the following day. On day 2 of the tournament, Hall fired a
blistering 63 which was the single day low score for the tournament.
Next league match will be held March 30-31 in the Tri-Cities, WA.
