PASCO-- Energy Northwest in partnership with Columbia Basin College will hold a ceremony to honor eight CBC Nuclear Technology graduates who have earned their national certificates. The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 10 in the Center for Career and Technical Education on CBC’s Pasco campus.
The industry-recognized National Academy for Nuclear Training (NACT) certificate goes to students who receive a grade of B or better in all core courses of the Nuclear Technology curriculum. They are given along with degrees from two-year college programs, of which, CBC was the third in the nation approved to offer the certificate.
The NACT certificate is not specific to CBC, ENW or any other company. Instead, it affirms that the graduate is ready to join any electric utility’s training program for plant operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
“Making the certificate fully transferable will increase the marketability of the degree and simplify hiring for utilities,” said Elizabeth McAndrew-Benavides, Nuclear Energy Institute’s manager for industry infrastructure. “It’s a situation that will benefit the new hires, utilities and the industry at large.”
Nuclear Technology graduate honorees include: Joseph Alexander, Ruby Barajas, Christopher Davis, Jason Dearing, Benjamin Foust, Timothy Medford, Sakher “Farris” Khayyat, and Traci Taylor.
