Goalkeeper Antonio Gonzalez saved Columbia Basin College’s
hopes of getting the No. 2 seed in the NWAACC East. But he didn’t do it
with his hands.
Gonzalez had an assist on former Pasco player
Richard Renteria’s goal in the 91st minute, and the host Hawks tied 1-1
with Spokane on Wednesday.
CBC needed a win or draw to get the
No. 2 seed behind Walla Walla, but the Hawks fell behind on Matt
Harper’s goal in the 21st minute.
Gonzalez made sure the Hawks would achieve their goal.
“He
picked it up and punted it down,” coach Kyle Vierck said. “The ball
happened to come down, and Richard got ahold of it and put it in, and it
gave us our tie and gave us our No. 2 seed. It was a pretty epic
moment.”
The Hawks will host Pierce next Wednesday, but the time and site have yet to be determined.
