Senator Patty Murray talked with local veterans today at Columbia Basin College.
In a roundtable discussion Murray and veterans talked about what some of the local challenges are for them.
Veteran Allen Serrano suffers from PTSD.
He said the counseling clinic for vertans in Kennewick was closed when its grant funding ran out.
He said now the nearest place for veterans to get counseling is in Walla Walla.
Serrano said loosing that service in the Tri-Cities is hard for many veterans.
"It's a huge difference it took me awhile to get comfortable with the
counselor I had and once I got comfortable and went from seeing her
regularly to not seeing her at all you can tell the difference it's a
big impact," said Serrano.
He said the group talked about how
many veterans are not aware of the resources that are available to them
and the need for more comapnies to both hire more veterans and take care
of any extra needs they may have.
Senator Murray also held a farming roundtable this afternoon at WSU Tri-Cities.
