The Music department holds three concerts a year; at the end of fall, winter, and spring quarters. Students are encouraged to participate in the college’s numerous performance groups which include:

Concert Band Concert
Tuesday, February 19
7 PM, Hanford High School
The Columbia Basin Concert Band, directed by Russ Newbury and Dr. Collin Wilson, present a mix of classic and contemporary works for wind band including Jay Bocook’s Gloriana, Frank Ticheli’s Vesuvius, Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium¸ and an original work by Russ Newbury. The concert will also feature the talented musicians of the Hanford High School Wind Ensemble under the direction of Russ Newbury.
Robert Richardson Memorial Scholarship Performances

7 PM, CBC Theatre
Robert W. Richardson lived with a song in his lips and music in his heart. When he died, at 77 on Sept. 2, 1990, his love of music continued living. Richardson, a Tri-Citian most of his youthful and adult life, enabled this love to continue for future generations of musicians who graduate from Tri-city area high schools. This Recital is the final phase of a three step process designed to select the top three candidates to receive the Robert Richardson Scholarship. Come hear the best high school musicians in the area all at one event.
Choral and Orchestra Concert

The CBC Concert Choir will present several selections of contemporary African American Spiritual and American Patriotic songs. The DeserTones Chamber Choir will sing selections exploring “Aspects of Love”; love in its many phases and representations, both groups are under the direction of Dave Cazier. They will be joined by the CBC Orchestra, under the direction of Bruce Walker Jr.
Jazz Ensemble and FreeForm Concert

Join the CBC jazz choir FreeForm, directed by Dave Cazier, and the CBC Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, directed by Dr. Collin Wilson for an amazing night of jazz at its fullest and best. Featuring iconic works from jazz legends and brand new compositions and arrangements the evening covers styles ranging from bebop and funk to Latin and R&B. Join us for a wonderful night of jazz and hear some of the most talented musicians in the area.

The 2019 Jazz Unlimited guest artist is professional drummer Keith Carlock, who has performed with many notable groups and soloists including Sting, Toto, Oz Noy, John Mayer, Steely Dan, James Taylor, and the original Blues Brothers Band.
