The Literacy Tutor program recruits and provides support to volunteers who tutor reading, writing, mathematics, and English as a Second Language (ESL) at CBC. Tutors provide one-on-one or small group educational support to learners either within the classroom or after class hours. Service hours and locations vary according to instructor and student needs. Volunteers may also assist with other program needs, such as clerical tasks.
Qualifications for Tutors
Tutors must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English, and must complete an interview and background check before placement begins. Patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor are important for success as a tutor.
