State Work Study

State Work Study (SWS) is funded by the State Legislature and administered by the Higher Education Coordinating Board through Financial Aid. These funds are generally used for off-campus jobs which are related to the student's major and/or career goals. Like all work study programs, students must file a financial aid form and have a demonstrated need.

Students in the SWS program must follow special procedures. Placement in these positions comes with the expectation that the student will stay employed in his or her job the entire academic year. If the occasion arises that the student is contemplating quitting or finding another job, it is essential that the student contact Student Employment.

Overall, it is important for students to feel good about the work they're doing and to always do the best job they can. The purpose behind SWS positions is to provide a bridge between the academic world and the "real" world of work. If at any time the student is unhappy or uncomfortable at the work site, the Student Employment SWS Coordinator is available to assist and support that student with his or her employment concerns.

Student Employment has developed handbooks for SWS employers and students. The SWS Student Handbook  and the SWS Employer Handbook provide information on policies and procedures for supervisors and student employees.
