The Literacy Tutor program at Columbia Basin College recruits and provides training and support to volunteers who tutor reading, writing, mathematics, and English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults in Benton and Franklin counties. Tutors provide one-on-one or small group sessions on campus or at community sites (including local jails) to both English and non-English speaking adults. Volunteer positions are also available in the classroom setting. Service hours and locations are flexible and vary according to tutor and student needs. Volunteers may also assist with other program needs, such as clerical tasks, fundraising, and public relations.
The Literacy Tutor program also provides referrals to the Learning Opportunities Center (LOC) and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes offered at Columbia Basin College.
