Program Overview
Columbia Basin College offers a Bachelors of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Applied Management. This degree is designed for those who have earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, but lack the broader business-related education needed to move into leadership positions. Many AAS holders have reached a plateau in their career, unable to advance because they cannot meet the bachelor's degree requirements for many supervisory positions. The BAS degree will broaden career opportunities and help graduates climb the career ladder leading to improved chances for promotion to management positions.
Curriculum
The BAS program is designed specifically for AAS graduates because their applied science credits are generally non-transferable to four-year institutions. The program gives AAS holders an opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree without having to start their college education from scratch, allowing full-time students to complete a baccalaureate degree in approximately two years.
Coursework includes 55 credits of major core classes, 35 credits of general education courses, a capstone class, and several electives involving project management, marketing, and applied management. Courses are offered Monday through Thursdays in the evenings.
Management instructors primarily teach the core classes, while associate faculty from CBC and the community help customize the coursework for the many different areas of AAS degrees; meaning students will complete assignments using specific information appropriate to their professions.
How To Apply
The application deadline for new priority enrollees is June 1, 2010, for fall quarter 2010 and September 1, 2010, for winter quarter 2011. Anyone with an Applied Science or Associates of Arts and Sciences degree can apply. Although not a requirement, it is also recommended that candidates have work experience in their field of expertise before beginning the program. Due to limited enrollment, applicants will have to complete a formal application and an interview before being accepted into the program.
