Watch the Intro
If you have never taken an online distance learning class, you should view this general introduction to distance learning and WebCT first. (This intro has audio content.)

Angel Help
Some classes are being offered in Angel.  You can check out the Week Zero Angel Tutorial if you are in any of those classes. To get to the tutorial, log on to Angel using the username: weekzero and the password: guest then click on the "Week Zero - Getting Started with Angel" link in the "Courses" box.

The tutorials that follow are WebCT specific.

WebCT Online Help
These WebCT tutorials are intended to prepare students who are taking their first online class and to provide immediate help to students who are already enrolled in an online class.

Tune-Up Your Browser
If you are enrolled in a WebCT class, the first thing you should do is ensure your browser settings are correct. Visit the WebCT Browser Tune-Up pages.  We are using WebCT/Blackboard 4.1 CE.  Verify that your browser is compatible with WebCT version 4.1 and prepare your browser. You will do the following:

  • Enable java and javascripting
  • Set browser cache
  • Turn off anonymous logon
  • Enable cookies
  • Disable pop-up blockers

Next Download Macromedia Flash Player
If you don't have it, you will need to download and install the Macromedia Flash Player to complete the tutorial or view the help topics.

Complete the Tutorial
The tutorials are in the form of animated presentations that explain and demonstrate WebCT procedures. They include sound, as well as written explanations, so you can listen and read along as each step is demonstrated and explained. They also have play-back controls so you can move forward or backward and pause.

To begin, click on the first tutorial (below). If you are connected to the Internet via dial-up connection (56K modem or slower), you should watch the demonstrations without sound.

When the tutorial ends, use your browser's back button to return here. Then, go to the demonstration classroom and practice, if you wish.

Complete these in sequence. When you have watched all the presentations, complete the WebCT knowledge check (tutorial number 9).

When you are ready to log in to your online class, go to myWebCT.
