A Scholarships

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution between the ages of 16 and 30. To apply for this scholarship you need to write an essay on the topic listed at their website http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline for submission of the essay is June 19, 2010.

Access to Education Scholarship
This scholarship is supported by USA Funds and is available for new and returning students.

Alfred G. and Elma M. Milotte Scholarship Trust Fund
Bank of America is Trustee for the Alfred G. and Elma M. Milotte Scholarship Trust Fund. It has been established for the purpose of awarding tuition scholarship awards to students who are interested in pursuing a course of study in natural history and the arts with particular interest in portraying the wilderness area in a manner to benefit the citizens of our country currently and in the future. The applicant should portray thorough photography, evidence in their interest in natural history, environmental studies, or animal behavior. Other forms of artistic expression, such as drawings or written work, which illustrates this evidence, will also be considered. More information can be found on the website at www.milotte.org. Ambassadorial Scholarships
This is the prestigious "Rotary" organization scholarship for students who can speak another language and want to study abroad in the "host" country of that language. Award amounts are from $10,000 to $23,000 for a three-month to full-year of study abroad. You should have completed at least two years of college work. Additional information may be obtained by visiting:

American Cancer Society Scholarship
The Great West Division of the American Cancer Society has established a scholarship program to give young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education from an accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school. This scholarship program is designed to ease the financial and emotional hardships associated with fighting cancer and to assist young cancer survivors in reaching their academic potential and fulfilling career dreams. A scholarship application packet may be obtained by calling 1-866-500-3272 or by visiting www.cancer.org and typing in your zip code. Only completed application packets received no later than February 26, 2010 will be considered.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
This program awards up to $12,000 in financial assistance to students who have earned a master's degree or completed at least three years of full-time employment in accounting. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and recommendations or references. The program is for applicants attending or planning to attend school full-time who have applied to or been accepted into a doctoral degree program with a concentration in accounting. Minimum GPA is 3.0. Applicants agree not to accept responsibility for teaching more than one course as a teaching assistant or to work more than one-quarter time as a research assistant. To learn more go to  www.aicpa.org

American Society of Women Accountants Seattle Chapter
This scholarship is for part-time of full-time students, pursuing either an associate of applied science, bachelor's, or master's degree in accounting or an equivalent designated post-baccalaureate certificate of accounting at an accredited community college, college, university, or professional school of accounting located in Washington state. Student must have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours within four weeks of the application deadline and also maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.05 overall and 3.0 in accounting. American Welding Society Scholarships
The American Welding Society is now accepting applications for their vast array of scholarship opportunities. The AWS offers more scholarships than can easily be listed. You can pick up a list of the scholarships and the applications at the Student Financial Services Office or they can be downloaded from www.aws.org. Application deadlines vary by type of scholarship.

B Scholarships

Big Sun Scholarship
The Big Sun organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. An annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post-secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. C Scholarships

College Bound Scholarship
The College Bound Scholarship offers the promise of tuition and books to qualifying 7th, 8th, or 9th graders in Washington. This scholarship covers the amount of tuition (at public college rates) not covered by other state financial aid, plus $500 for books. It can be used at any public two- or four-year, and many of the private universities, colleges, or career schools in Washington. To be eligible, your family income must meet requirements. Foster youth are automatically eligible to apply. Students must submit an application, graduate from a Washington state high school, maintain a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.0, be a good citizen and stay crime free, apply for admission to an eligible college in Washington, complete a FAFSA, meet the income requirements, and be a resident of Washington. Computer Science and Computer Engineering Academic Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Areas of study that will be considered include computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, database management, computer networking, computer programming, and information technology management. Applications can be found at the Education Portal website http://education-portal.com/pages/Computer_Science_Academic_Scholarship.html. The application is due April 1 annually.

Con Agra Scholarship
Applications are now available at Student Financial Services for the Con Agra Scholarship for employees of the Pasco plant and their dependents. This scholarship is open to apply for until all funds have been awarded.

D Scholarships

Daughters of the American Revolution
The local Columbia River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to once again offer a scholarship in the amount of $250. The applicant must be a local student who has been accepted or is currently enrolled at CBC. The applicant must also be a member of the local chapter of DAR, a descendent of members of Columbia River DAR, or recommended by Columbia River DAR. Preference will given to those in nursing or history fields.

To apply for the Columbia River DAR scholarship, please provide a short essay as to why you choose nursing or history. You must also attach a recommendation from a CBC instructor. For more information, or to submit the above listed materials for consideration, contact Nancy Gower Hulse at nhulse@bossig.com or call her at 509-539-1179. Please submit materials by August.

Degree Directory Academic Business Scholarship
This scholarship is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing bachelor level degrees related to business management, information systems management, marketing, finance, accounting, human resource management, and entrepreneurship. The award is a $1,000 annual scholarship that may be reapplied for one additional year. Selection is based on academic history, extracurricular activities, and employment history. Financial need is not considered. Applications can be found at http://degreedirectory.org/pages/business_scholarship.html. Deadline for the application is April 1, 2010.

E Scholarships

Edna Myers Scholarship for Women Chapter FK, P.E.O.
The Edna Myers Scholarship is offered by the PEO Chapter FK in Richland for local women who demonstrate financial need and who are attending Columbia Basin College or Washington State University Tri-Cities. It provides a helping hand to women who are continuing their education, sometimes at great odds. The amount of the award is $500. For consideration applications can be picked up in the Student Financial Services office and must be returned by March 6, annually.

Education-Portal.com Scholarships
Education-Portal.com has established several new undergraduate academic awards for the 2010 academic year. These $500 awards are designed for students who are pursuing either an Associate or Bachelor degree within a given subject matter. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee and a top applicant is chosen for each award after the April 1, 2010 deadline. Undergraduate, Graduate, and Distance Learning Academic Scholarships being offered are listed below by specific degree. Undergraduate Academic Awards are offered for Computer Science and C.P.E, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement, Liberal Arts and General Studies, and Architecture and Drafting. Graduate Academic Awards are offered for Business Administration, Engineering, Nursing and Health Administration, and Public Administration and Public Policy. Distance Learning Academic Awards are being offered for Undergraduate Distance Learning and Graduate Level Distance Learning. Elk National Foundation Scholarships
ENF Legacy Awards are available only to children and grandchildren of Elks who have been members in good standing for at least two years. Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund
Scholarships are available to dependent children or spouses of persons who were killed or are permanently disabled as a direct result of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Applicants may be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States. Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarships
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, in association with Ernst & Young LLP, is offering three scholarships in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. The scholarships are intended to support and encourage aspiring undergraduate or graduate students to pursue careers in children's media and further the values and principles of Fred Rogers' work. GESA Credit Union Scholarship
Starting with the 2009-2010 school year, GESA will have scholarships available to students attending colleges and universities available directly through GESA Credit Union. Applications are available on their website: www.gesa.com. Deadline for applications is February 28, annually.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) created GrantsNet to help young scientists learn more about the funding process and find out how to best showcase his/her talents. Horse Heaven Wine Growers Scholarship
The Horse Heaven Wine Growers are pleased to be able to offer a $1,500 scholarship to a student pursuing studies in Viticulture and or Enology. The scholarship is open to high school graduates planning to enroll in a Washington state college or university or in the WSU two year Vit/Enol Certification Program; current students planning to study in viticulture and enology and/or areas pertinent to the wine industry; and be a resident from Benton, Yakima, Klickitat counties.

J Scholarships

John Farmer Scholarship
The Washington Wine Industry Foundation is pleased to be offering six scholarships ($2,000, $1,000, and four $500) to be awarded to students pursuing studies in viticulture and/or enology and with financial need. The scholarship was established by the family and friends of John Farmer, a prominent and very much respected and loved wine grape grower. 

The scholarship is available to high school graduates planning to enroll in a Washington state college, university, or in the WSU two-year Vit/Enol Certification program. The application is also available to current students already enrolled in area planning to study in viticulture and enology and/or areas pertinent to the wine industry. Preference will be given to those with financial need. Applications along with additional eligibility criteria are available at the Student Financial Services office. Applications must be postmarked by November 30.

Kids' Chance of Washington
The Kids' Chance of Washington is a need-based scholarship program for the dependent children and spouses of workers killed or seriously disabled in a workplace accident in Washington. Kids' Chance of Washington is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to provide educational scholarships to help these families in need. Military Education Scholarships

The Military Education Scholarship program scholarships are awarded ongoing, and as of October, new scholarship applications are now being accepted. Check out their website, http://www.vamortgagecenter.com/scholarships.html, for scholarship opportunities for the following eligible applicants:

N Scholarships

National Alliance for Excellence Scholarships
The student competitors can be seniors or already in college. They must submit an application that can include recommendations (academics), art (slides), dance (tapes), photographs, or other materials that point to talent and achievement in all areas. The awards are for a minimum of one year, and more than 100 are granted. Applications can be submitted at any time. Additional details and applications available at: www.excellence.org/programs.htm.

National Scholars Honor Society
The National Scholars Honor Society offers $19,000 in scholarships to highly qualified achievers from all academic pursuits. Scholarship eligibility is determined for each new applicant at the time of acceptance and is reviewed biannually. Members may update the submitted information electronically or by standard mail. Apply for this scholarship on line at: www.CollegeHonors.org.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
The NSDAR is a non-profit service organization that annually offers a variety of scholarships to qualified individuals who are citizens of the United States and are attending or plan to attend an accredited college or university within the United States. For information and complete instructions about how and where to apply, visit the NSDAR website, www.dar.org, then select "Scholarships" where a complete description of each scholarship is available, as well as the application process and deadlines. After the applications have been received a mandatory interview is required.

Northern Illinois University's Becoming a Teacher of Blind Children Scholarship

There is a desperate need for trained individuals to work with blind and visually impaired children. Northern Illinois University offers one of the very best programs for becoming a teacher of the blind. For undergraduates the award amount is $600 and for graduate students there are grants to help cover tuition costs. Nursing Scholarships

Orphan Foundation of America (OFA/Casey Family Scholarships)

P Scholarships

P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education is a program providing financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to resume studies due to changing demands in their lives. They must have a need for financial assistance with their educational expenses to improve their marketable skills. A woman is eligible to apply if she is sponsored by a P.E.O. chapter, is a U.S. citizen, is studying in the United States, has had at least 24 consecutive months as a nonstudent sometime in her adult life, is within 24 consecutive months of completing her educational goal, and is not enrolled in a doctoral degree program. R Scholarships

Rotary Foundation
Through The Rotary Foundation's Educational Programs, Rotary members worldwide strive to promote international understanding and relations between people of different nations. Since 1947, The Rotary Foundation has sponsored over 35,000 "ambassadors of goodwill" to study or teach in another country. Applications are now being accepted for the following scholarships and grants:


Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships - This program provides Academic Year, Multi-Year, and Cultural scholarships to study abroad. Recipients are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill to the people of their host country through appearances before Rotary clubs and districts, civic organizations and other forums. After study is completed, scholars share their experiences with the people of their home countries and with local Rotarians who sponsored their scholarships.
Rotary World Peace Scholarships - This program offers annually 70 Rotary World Peace Scholarships for two-year master's degree or certificate programs in international relations, peace studies and conflict resolution at one of seven Rotary Centers for International Studies located at prestigious universities around the globe. For more information go to http://www.rotary.org/foundation/educational.

S Scholarships

The SALLIEMAE Fund
Sallie Mae awarded more than $2.3 million this fall to help students all over the country go to college.  To find out how you can apply for scholarships next year, view a list of last year's recipients, or order free financial aid resources go to www.salliemaefund.org.

Sather Endowment
The Sather Endowment offers two scholarships annually in the amount $250 each. The applicants must be women who have been working part-time/or who have been out of the workforce for the past five years. The applicants must also be currently enrolled at Columbia Basin College and be pursing a certificate or degree while maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA in a least one quarter or attendance at Columbia Basin College. Applications can be picked up at the Student Financial Services office and the Resource Center.
Deadline:  August 31, annually.

Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation of Washington
Scottish Rite offers scholarship and fellowship opportunities to help qualified students achieve their academic goals. Eligible applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a Washington state resident attending a bachelor degree awarding college or university in Washington full time, a third, fourth, or fifth-year undergraduate, maintain a GPA of at least 3.0, and meet the application deadline. The application deadline is March 31.

Society of Women Engineers AREVA NP Inc.
This scholarship is offered to a qualified female engineering student in the rising-sophomore or above classification in a nuclear-related field of engineering (nuclear, mechanical, chemical, electrical, or computer). Applicants must be female students who have completed at least one year of studies in an accredited school with an intention to enter a nuclear-related field of engineering, have satisfactorily completed a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent engineering credits at an ABET accredited school, be able to accept the scholarship toward undergraduate or graduate engineering studies in an accredited school, and also be residing in the Northwestern United States (inclusive of WA, OR, ID, MT, and AK). Society of Women Engineers Wanda Munn Scholarship
Each year the SWE administers a minimum $1,000 scholarship to a nontraditional female student to help alleviate the financial burden of returning to school. Eligible applicants must be a nontraditional female student, be able to accept the scholarship toward undergraduate or graduate engineering studies in an accredited school in the fall, satisfactory completion of a minimum two years of full time equivalent credits at an ABET accredited school, and be residing in the Northwestern United States (inclusive of WA, OR, ID, MT and AK). Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Award
This award gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Eligible applicants must be women who:

  • provide the primary financial support for their families (head of household)
  • are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program
  • have financial need
  • are motivated to achieve their educational and career goals

The first place award is $2,000 and the second place award is $1,000. The applications are available in the Student Financial Services office. The deadline is December 14 annually.

Soroptimist Professional/Technical Award
This award will be given to two women enrolled in a professional or technical program leading to a certificate, license, or degree. The award can be used for tuition and books. The first place award is $1,500 and the second place award is $1,000. Applications are available in the Student Financial Services office. The deadline for applications is January 15, annually.

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Young Women Award
Eligible applicants are young women who:

  • are currently between the ages of 14 and 17
  • have demonstrated initiative in both identifying a problem and trying to solve it
  • have had significant and noteworthy accomplishments as volunteers

Soroptimist International of Pasco-Kennewick award is $400. Local winners can compete for an additional $1000 award. Applications are available in the Student Financial Services office. The deadline is December 1 annually.

S.W. (Bill) Preston Scholarship
This scholarship is offered by Preston Premium Wines and Preston Vineyards through the Washington Wine Industry Foundation. It is a rotating annual $3,000 scholarship awarded one year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the viticulture program at a Washington college or university; and the subsequent year to a student enrolled or planning to enroll in the enology program at a Washington college or university. Selection basis will include academic merit, leadership abilities, and interest in the study of viticulture or enology. The application must include a 500-word essay explaining why you should receive the scholarship, two letters of reference, and official school transcripts. Applications can be picked up in the Student Financial Services office. Deadline for the application is November 30, annually.

T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships

The Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (T.E.A.C.H.) program provides scholarships to childcare center providers and family childcare providers who want to study early childhood education. Any childcare provider employed full-time (30 hours or more per week) in a licensed childcare center or licensed family care provider; or any school-age provider working in a licensed facility 15 to 29 hours per week: is eligible. Ten-Year $10K Scholarship
The Ten-Year $10K Scholarship is sponsoring the Ten-Year $10K Scholarship. Any current college or graduate student—or anyone who will be enrolled in 2008—is eligible for this scholarship. Students will receive one entry by registering at www.studentloannetwork.com/10k.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships
This scholarship will award $1,500 to students with an economic need. Full-time and half-time undergraduates as well as full-time graduate and professional students are eligible for this award. Up to 50 percent of the scholarships will be targeted to students who, in addition to demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic minority group or are physically disabled. For the application and more information regarding the scholarship, please visit www.usafunds.org/scholarship. Applications must be completed and submitted by February 15, 2010.

V Scholarships

Vista Hermosa Foundation Scholarships
The Vista Hermosa Foundation Scholarship program is offering the First Fruits Scholarship ($500 up to $10,000). This scholarship is applicable to children of established seasonal and year-round Broetje orchards employees, children of vista Hermosa and Snake River Housing employees, and graduates of Jubilee Christian Academy. Two-year degree must be completed within 2-1/2 years. Four-year degree must be completed within 4-1/2 years – up to 5 years if warranted.

For out-of-state/out-of-country students, parents must submit a letter describing how they will communicate, support student and encourage accountability. Funding for out-of-country students is based on documented registration and fees not to exceed $3,000 U.S.

W Scholarships

Walter J. Clore Scholarship
The Walter J. Clore Scholarship was established in 1997 by the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers in honor of Dr. Clore's grape research and lifetime achievements in the field of viticulture and enology.  During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, while a researcher at the Washington State University Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center, Dr. Clore worked with the pioneer grape growers in the state of Washington to foster the rebirth of the wine industry.

The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers, through the Washington Wine Industry Foundation, is offering $500 - $2,000 scholarships(s) to be awarded to student(s) interested in the studies of viticulture and/or enology.  For specific guidelines and applications logon to www.wawgg.org or pick them at the Student Financial Services office.

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE)
This popular scholarship emphasizes the importance of hands-on, relevant learning in career and technical education classrooms around the state. Two high school students and one student from a community or technical college are selected from each of the states' 49 Legislative districts-a total of 147 winners. This annual scholarship pays up to two years of college tuition. For more information or to obtain an application, please visit the State of Washington Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board website www.wtb.wa.gov/wave after December 10, 2009. Applications are due February 5, 2010.

Washington Pulp & Paper Foundation

Scholarships are available to students who are interested in pursuing degrees in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, and computer programming at the University of Washington. For more information contact:

Washington State Business and Professional Women's Foundation
This foundation offers a vast amount of scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000. Eligibility requirements: female student who is a U.S. citizen and a resident of Washington state for two or more years who can demonstrate scholastic ability and is in need of financial assistance. Also one has to be enrolled in an "online" accredited program accepted by Washington state education institutions and officially accepted into a program or course of study at an accredited school in Washington state. Applications can be found online at http://bpwwa.com/scholarships.htm. Completed application must be mailed by April 1, 2010, and received no later than April 5, 2010.

Washington State Employees Credit Union
The WSECU scholarship is available for students who are pursuing a two-year, four-year, or graduate degree full-time in the fall of that year. Twenty scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to recipients attending a four-year or graduate school and seven scholarships of $1,000 each to students studying at a two-year or vocational school. Membership at any credit union other than WSECU does not qualify applicants for this scholarship. To apply, go to www.wsecu.org and click on "Scholarships" or for more information, call 800-562-0999. Deadline for the application is March 1, annually.

Washington Women in Need (WWIN)
Scholarship opportunity for women that are Washington residents, 18 or older, and have first applied for financial aid. If you are interested in applying, contact Kathy Young at (425) 451-8838.

Whitman County School Retirees Association
This scholarship is focused on an individual who has successfully completed their freshman college year, be in the field of Education, and plan to be a teacher, must demonstrate some degree of financial need, and be a graduate of a Whitman County Public High School or be a current member's child or grandchild. The qualified applicant will be awarded $1,000. Scholarship applications can be picked up at the Students Financial Services office. Application must be completed and postmarked no later than April 15, 2010.
