Q:  Are all students guaranteed Work Study placement?
A: Student Employment is available to assist students in identifying on-campus and off-campus placement. However, the final choice to hire students is up to the employer or supervisor. As in the real world of work, students will compete for positions and must prove to the employer/supervisor that they are the best candidate for the job. (Information about resume writing and interviewing skills will be made available for students who feel they need extra assistance.)

Q:  How do I get the money for my Work Study award?
A: The only way to get money for Work Study is to work for it. You must either be placed in an on-campus Federal Work Study (CWS) job or an off-campus State Work Study (SWS) job. You receive your Work Study award in the form of a pay check.
  • If you work on campus you make the current state minimum wage per hour and are paid once a month.
  • If you work off campus, you are placed in a career-related position, and the employer determines your hourly wage and how often you are paid.

Q: Are there other computers labs on campus?
A: Yes. There are computers located in the Library on which students can do homework and research. In the Tutor and Writing Center, there are computers for you and your tutor to work on. All labs have the Office Suite and Internet. Other computer labs across campus are for classroom use, special testing, and supervised use.

Q: Can I access my transcripts online?
A: You can access the KIOSK for unofficial transcripts (at no charge), class schedule information and other information.  You will need your Student ID number and PIN.

Q: Can I log into any computer on campus using my domain username and password?
A: No, you can only log into your assigned computers.

Q: Can I receive college credit for my State Work Study experience?
A: In some cases students may also receive credit for their work study experience. Discuss this possibility with your program Dean and/or a Student Employment staff member.

Q: Can someone request my transcript on my behalf?
A: In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, a student's transcript will be released only upon the wirtten request of the student.  TELEPHONE AND EMAIL REQUESTS WILL NOT BE HONORED.

Release of transcripts to a second party requires:

  1. a written release from the student authorizing a second party to pick up a transcript, and
  2. positive photo identification (e.g. driver's license) of the party with the written authorization.

Transcripts will not be released to a student's parents unless the parent has the student's written consent.

Q: Do I need a student ID to use the Lab?
A: Yes, since the lab is supported by the technology fee only current CBC students can use these resources. The ID with the current quarter sticker will show us that you are a current student. Keep your quarterly stickers up to date by asking for the sticker when you pay tuition each quarter.

Q: Do income tax returns need to be completed before completing the FAFSA?
A: It is a good idea to have completed the federal tax return before completing the FAFSA since exact tax information can make processing faster and simpler. If this cannot be done in time for you to meet the priority filing date at the school(s) in which you are interested, use estimated figures when completing the application. If at a later date the estimated figures differ from the actual figures, make corrections  on your Student Aid Report (SAR) or contact your school's financial aid office to find out how you should correct the information.

Q: Do you sell disks?
A: No, we do not. We do have disks and a thumb (flash) drive or a memory stick that you can save your work on for emergency use; however, the disk or drive must be left in the lab since other student's work is on it too. You can then have time to purchase a disk or drive of your own and then transfer these files to your own disk space upon your return to the lab. Floppy disks, flash drives, and CDs are available in the Bookstore.

Q: For other WebCT FAQs
A: Eventually, the WebCT FAQs will be transferred here.  Until then, check the WebCT Technical FAQ page.

Q: How can I work when I'm going to school full-time?
A: Many students work, usually 10 to 15 hours per week. Surveys have shown the students who work do as well, often better, in their classes than students who don't -- perhaps the obligation of having a job requires them to budget their time more carefully. Work Study programs have three main advantages: (1) it helps you keep your loan debt down, since often the alternative to work is taking a loan, (2) it gives you a chance to get work experience which will help you find a job when you get out of school, and (3) work study earnings are offset on future aid applications.

Q: How do I apply for financial aid?
A: Start by completing a FAFSA. This can be done electronically or by completing a paper application. To apply electronically it is recommended you start by registering for a PIN (your parent should also register) by going to www.pin.ed.gov. Once you receive your PIN,  complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To apply by paper, complete a FAFSA which can be picked up at the Student Financial Services office. Electronic and paper FAFSAs cannot be signed or submitted before January 1.

Q: How do I find out about Work Study jobs?
A: In order to be placed in any Work Study job, you must be referred by Student Employment in the Hawk Union Bldg (HUB). If you are applying for on-campus Federal Work Study (CWS), you must attend an informational session during the fall where you will sign up for on-campus interviews. If you are interested in career-related, off-campus State Work Study (SWS), you must make an appointment with a Student Employment staff member, who will assist you in identifying an off-campus, career-related Work Study placement.

Q: How do I forward/unforward my phone?
A: A phone may be forwarded by picking up the phone, then dialing *2, followed by the extension you wish to forward it to

The call forward feature may be cancelled by dialing the # sign, followed by 2. (#2)
